Republican Rep. Greg Steube reveals he fractured his pelvis falling off a ladder at his Florida home: Recovers at home after his release from hospital

Republican Rep. Greg Steube revealed Monday night that he fractured his pelvis after falling 25 feet from a ladder last week at his Florida home ‘Grateful for everyone’s prayers and well-wishes as I recover from a fractured pelvis, a punctured lung, and several torn ligaments in my neck,’ he saidLast week, Steube fell off a ladder while ‘cutting tree limbs,’ spent a night in the intensive care unit and will be recovering from his injuries for ‘several weeks’ The Florida congressman won’t be able to vote nor participate virtually in committee meetings due to a GOP change in the House rules earlier this month

Republican Rep. Greg Steube revealed Monday night that he fractured his pelvis after falling 25 feet from a ladder last week at his Florida home.

‘I am blessed to have a great support team in my wife Jennifer as well as numerous friends and family, including the Steube pups!’ the Florida congressman tweeted. ‘Grateful for everyone’s prayers and well-wishes as I recover from a fractured pelvis, a punctured lung, and several torn ligaments in my neck.’

He included with the tweet a picture of himself resting at home – with two of his dogs on his lap and another peeking at him from the floor – with his neck brace clearly visible.

‘While I will be sidelined in Sarasota for several weeks, I will be carrying out as many of my congressional duties as possible, and our DC and district staff continue to be readily available to assist Floridians in FL-17,’ he added. ‘I’m eager to rejoin my colleagues in Washington as soon as possible!’

Republican Rep. Greg Steube tweeted a picture Monday night that showed him resting on the couch with his two dogs – and another in the background – where a neck brace is clearly visible

Steube revealed that he suffered a fractured pelvis, a punctured lung and several torn ligaments in his neck when he fell 25 feet from a ladder last week, while ‘cutting tree limbs’

On January 18, Steube fell off the ladder while ‘cutting tree limbs,’ his office said.

He spent the night in the intensive care unit but his office deemed his injuries ‘not life threatening at this time.’

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he talked with Steube and his wife Jen the day after the accident.

McCarthy said he informed Steube that he would serve on the House Republicans new Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, adding, ‘he is eager to get back to work!’

Steube tweeted that he expected to be absent from Washington for several weeks as he recovers from his injuries. The new House Republican majority did away with proxy voting and allowing members to participate in committee hearings over Zoom

But Steube will be sidelined from voting on any issues while recovering from his injuries at his Florida home.

The new Republican majority did away with proxy voting as part of the rules package the body passed after the dramatic speakership race, which McCarthy eventually won.

Proxy voting was put in place by the Democrats under House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to cut down on foot traffic to the House floor and also allow sick or exposed members to continue to vote and participate in committee hearings using Zoom.

Now both of those options are gone.

House Republicans responded to their base, voters who are largely against COVID-19 safety protocols, by doing away with any work-from-home options for members of Congress.
