The Last Of Us named one of the highest-earning video games on YouTube as it is worth $56K per hour… after smashing success of HBO television adaptation premiere

 Coming off the smashing ratings success of the HBO television adaptation it has been revealed that The Last Of Us video game is the highest earning on YouTube.

The Naughty Dog developed and Sony Computer Entertainment published video game has playthrough videos earning $56,247 per hour of footage according to research done by Bonusninja. 

According to the online casino site – of the top most popular games last year – the Last Of Us had one of the highest earning potentials on YouTube with an average of 4,166,460 views across each of the most-watched playthroughs.

The analysis involved looking through the numbers of the top 20 most-viewed playthroughs for some of the most in-demand games which included  GTA V, Portal 2 and Cyberpunk 2077.

A spokesperson for Bonusninja commented on the findings as they said: ‘The earning potential behind YouTube has long been utilized as a revenue stream by content creators – but many might be surprised to find that video game playthroughs can earn thousands.

‘When games get an uptick in interest – due to TV adaptations like The Last of Us – it’s a great time for budding creators to start increasing their content output and capitalize on these newfound opportunities.

Meanwhile, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann’s highly-anticipated dystopian drama The Last of Us managed to amass 4.7M viewers across linear TV and HBO Max last Sunday.

The post-apocalyptic series – set 20 years after a global pandemic – marks the cable network’s second-largest debut after House of the Dragon’s historic 9.986M viewership last August.

‘Our focus was simply to make the best possible adaptation of this beloved story for as big an audience as we could,’ the showrunners said in a statement last Tuesday.

The parasitic fungal infection – inspired by the real-life ophiocordyceps unilateralis – killed off 60% of the population and has four stages of infection, which increasingly causes humans to resemble zombie-like monsters that use echolocation.

It takes someone over a decade to reach stage four of the infection where they develop hardened fungal plates, release infectious spores, and are increasingly difficult to kill.

The Last of Us also features Nick Offerman, Melanie Lynskey, Storm Reid, Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, and Anna Torv.

It currently has a ‘certified fresh’ 97% critic approval rating and a 96% audience score on film and television review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.
